Community Based Teams / Church Based Teams
These are our growth strategy for sports chaplaincy across this wide land we call Australia. So what are they? They are a group of volunteers, usually between 2-6 people, who are passionate about seeing chaplaincy grow. They will have a focus that they are generally passionate about. This might be their state, their sport, their region, their church etc. And they look to do 4 things.
IDENTIFY – identify clubs that want chaplains & people that want to be chaplains
TRAIN – ensure that the people they have identified get trained and equipped
APPOINT – once the people have been accredited and trained they then appoint them
GUIDE – they then look to guide the new chaplains and ensure they are being supported and cared for by their churches
Our team will help equip our CBT’s and teach them how to go about doing this. If you are interested in starting a CBT let us know – if you think you are already doing this let us know (ua.mo1701836091c.ycn1701836091ialpa1701836091hcstr1701836091ops.d1701836091lo@tb1701836091c1701836091). We would love to walk with you in this journey and look to ensure we are placing trusted people in sporting clubs who are SCA trained and accredited to see the sporting communities you are passionate about are being cared for.
Here are some stories of some of our CBTs (why not send us your story so we can share it)
Tony was asked to be a chaplain by a mate and as he went through the process he discovered more about SCA and the opportunity that existed to place chaplains and so he started to think about this and pray and he felt called to actually spend his time on growing chaplaincy. So speaking with some others and gathering individuals he formed a CBT that is in essence the WA CBT. These guys are walking through the journey and together we are seeing growth happen quicker than we have before and i think it’s safe to say Tony is enjoying what he is doing.
On the northern coast of NSW there lived a man who has been a chaplain for several years now, Having heard about CBT’s but never really engaging with it or taking on board the concept of actively being a catalyst for growth he woke up one morning and called his regional coordinator and asked if he could start a CBT as he wanted to see more chaplains in his area. So he called 2 other friends who he thought might be interested and they gathered and started to identify the potential chaplains and then called them and 2 of the 5 they came up with were already apart of a sports club and loved the idea, so over the next few weeks we organised a level 1 training and started conversations with their clubs and we now have 4 chaplains placed in that small coastal town with more conversations happening and more chaplains and clubs identified.
Meeting with Queensland Rugby League they asked for more chaplains, to be honest they asked for one for each club. So we chatted and looked at some areas of priority and so I spoke to a couple of people about the potential and if they wanted to be a part of a CBT to see chaplains placed in these clubs. A few people said they would pray for us, others said yes and so we have started another (sport-focused) CBT to see this request become a reality.
CBT’s start from different beginnings and with different motivations but all with the same agenda, to see a chaplain placed in every sports community across Australia (they just have selected which part of Australia, whether it’s regionally, sport, church etc). So thanks to all of you who are actively growing chaplaincy. If you haven’t signed up your CBT yet please let us know so we can support you and cheer you on, give you some lessons learnt and connect you with other like-minded people. If in reading this you are feeling stirred to start one then please let us know. All you need to do is email ua.mo1701836091c.ycn1701836091ialpa1701836091hcstr1701836091ops.d1701836091lo@tb1701836091c1701836091 and we will start (or perhaps continue) the journey with you.
