SCA Chaplains Serving at the 2016 Rio Paralympics

On Thursday August 11 SCA Cycling Chaplain Murray Lydeamore will leave Australia on the first leg of his 5th Paralympics bound for Italy with the Australian Para cycling team.

The Aussie cycling team is made up of 16 riders and 9 staff members. After final preparations and training in Italy, Murray and the team will then make their final flight into Rio and enter the Games Village on August 31.

2016 RIO Paralympics are on September 7-18.

With 33 cycling medals up for grabs on bicycles, tricycles, tandems, and handbikes, competition will be fast and furious both on the track and the road.

During his 23 years of chaplaincy with the Australian able bodied and para cyclists and staff, Murray has also been privileged to build into the lives of people from other countries. Including close ties with China’s Para cycling riders and staff.

One rider, Ruan Jian Ping (pictured below left) asked Murray to conduct her wedding in China early next year. Likewise, one of the team translators he met a few years ago at a World Championships in Beijing asked the same question!

During his recent trip to China Murray was able to catch up with good friends (pictured below) which he has maintained contact with over the years. Despite the language differences Murray says “God’s love really has no barriers.”

Despite Murray being the manager and Chaplain to the Australian Para cycling team, he remains in close contact with the elite able bodied athletes selected for the Olympics.
