On the back of the Bendigo Bank’s “BE THE CHANGE” ad campaign where customers are asked whether they want to see what difference their support makes, Sports Chaplaincy Australia was awarded the banks’ inaugural Strengthening the Community Philanthropic Award this week.
Warrandyte Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank Director Lance Ward made the surprise presentation on Monday night with over 100 in attendance from local sports and community clubs and organisations.

Director Ward shared about the significant impact sports chaplains had shown his own family and members of the wider football community when a local footballer Pat Cronin lost his life to a one-punch incident. Mr Ward said, “It’s so important for young men to have someone to talk with when times get tough.” adding, “the chaplains from SCA made a genuine impact on many people including my sons.”
Lance went on to say, “On behalf of the Warrandyte Community Bank, the Directors and Chair Aaron Farr, we want to say thank you to the men and women of SCA for serving so selflessly in their local community.”
National Director Cam Butler received the award, thanking Lance and the bank, adding that, “This award is received for all our sports chaplains across Australia.”
The Bendigo Bank continues to be a tremendous sponsor of the work of SCA around our country.
SCA would gratuitously encourage all its friends to consider banking with the Bendigo Bank as they genuinely sow back into their many local communities for good and have done so consistently over many years.
