Senior students from Waverley Christian College’s VCAL program recently visited SCA offices at Etihad Stadium.
They spent time volunteering for the Champions Dinner and learning both the challenges in Australian communities as well as the solution sports chaplains provide. Waverley student, Ben Morris, shares his experience.
We went to Sports Chaplaincy Australia at Etihad to get an insight into what sports chaplains do and why they do it. It was a very beneficial trip and it helped us to learn about chaplaincy in sporting clubs.
Sports chaplains are in sporting clubs to help support the club. They help the players and coaches by providing someone to come to with their problems and help sort them out in a confidential and positive environment.
One thing that impressed me was their goal to get a chaplain in every sporting club in Australia. Now they have a chaplain in 700 clubs out of over 70,000 in Australia. Even though they are far off, they are still aiming for that goal.
“Lord, I pray that you would bless SCA and help them in their work. Provide the chaplains and resources they need in order for them to reach their goal.”
Ben highlights the need for the SCA network to be praying to the Lord of the harvest for more workers (Luke 10). Thanks to Ben and the Waverley Christian College students for their servant hearts and support. The students didn’t just leave their response to a prayer but rather raised some finance themselves to help further the work of SCA and donated over $124 – what a challenge these young students have given us all, maybe you can ask what are you doing to help the growth of SCA
