How do you do sports chaplaincy in a country where the idea of pastoral care in sport just does not exist?
In mid-April, Tim Argall will be heading to a country in western Asia to work with a multi-national group from a number of countries discussing the development of Sports Chaplaincy.
Tim will be using SCA’s core training materials as a springboard for those discussions. Argall said, “There are many uncertainties, except I sense that God is with us in spite of the challenges, to reach out to local sport communities.”
Each of the local participants will do a Level 1 and Level 2 qualification over the next month – with the Level 2 being done face to face under Tim’s leadership across the first weekend in April in an undisclosed location.
Prior to this, most of the participants will have accessed and completed SCA’s new pilot online Level 1 Sports Chaplaincy course – a development Tim has been working on with National Training Director Steve Stubbings.
SCA expects this NEW online course will be released for worldwide access in the second quarter of 2017.
What can you do?
Please pray – for safety, for deep conversations, for the development of a God-honouring strategy in establishing a sports chaplains network in that part of the world. You may even want to consider joining Tim’s prayer team – he will be posting prayer points each day he is ‘on location’. Tim, says, “I would deeply appreciate your prayers, the value of prayer in these circumstances cannot be underestimated.”
You can also support those in the course in practical ways – running the course does involve financial outlay – If you feel moved to donate towards this endeavour, please make a donation here and mark it INT-WA. If you want to be even more involved, we can put you in touch with Tim personally – and who knows – you may find yourself assisting in the discussions in person!
