CHAPLAINS NEWS: Golden Square chaplain, Bruce Claridge, and the Bendigo Football and Netball League (BFNL) have begun planning their third trip to India, taking place in January 2017.
Claridge and the BFNL have had an ongoing relationship with AFL India, and it is fast becoming an exciting annual trip. The purpose: to assist with India’s National AFL Championship and to help disadvantaged youth.
Last year’s October trip saw the group introduce AFL to children in the Mominpore slum in Kolkata. They also donated a delivery van through funds raised back in Bendigo, with the purpose of transporting children from the slum to sporting, cultural and educational events. The group also donated various gifts such as footballs and wearable gear.
Early this year two Mumbaikar boys came to visit Australia as ambassadors for the game back in India. They saw their first live AFL game at the MCG, toured Simmonds Stadium, and of course visited their friends in the BNFL.
