Rio Olympic Chaplain Hannah Johnson was celebrated and awarded this years (2016) Brian King Award at Sport House at Olympic Village Homebush NSW this week.
The annual award which recognises passion and innovation in growing sports chaplaincy in Australia was presented by SCA’s National Development Director Steve Stubbings. Who said of Johnson, “As many of you know Hannah has been amazing. She’s worked tirelessly in her role as State Network Coordinator. Taking over my role when I moved to Melbourne a few years ago… and now deservedly has been awarded this trophy in recognition of Brian King.”
David Tyndall spoke glowingly of the late Brian King and how he was picked to play Rugby for Australia only to have his dream shattered. “In his first match he flew to New Zealand but had to return immediately due to his father’s illness, never to play again.” Tyndall said, “Brian was a man who always made you feel so encouraged…” “He later went on to serve as a Bishop in the Anglican church and through his passion for sport help launch SLM (SCA) in the early 1980’s.”
Brian’s wife, Pamela Judge (King) shared this message with Hannah and the Conference. [~]
