If you’ve lived in Perth, Western Australia over the past 30 years and had leaky taps there’s a good chance you would have heard of the “Singing Plumber”.

Motor Racing Chaplain Terry ‘Dorro’ Dorrington, affectionately know as the ‘singing plumber’ because of his love for singing on the job, has pretty much done it all.

In his early days Terry trained as a Plumber. After singing ‘off-key’ in the choir, he turned his hand to being a West Australian Police Officer. Not being content with arresting people, he returned back to his singing plumbing career! Making many more friends across suburban Perth. He then trained to be an ordained Minister only to return back to plumbing for another long stint.

Terry began as a motor sports chaplain 23 years ago at Claremont Speedway when a 6 year old boy was killed. He did this for five years, 20 years at Barbagello Raceway, and currently the Perth Motorplex chaplain (17 years).

His influence pushes far and wide, well beyond the race track. Taking Christ’s grace and mercy to places many fear to tread. Including supporting injured drivers, families experiencing loss, caring for owners, bikie gang members and track officials.

His sacrificial commitment in caring for a young racer Shane who became a paraplegic after a freak accident, raising thousands of dollars for his family to care for him, culminated in Terry celebrating Shane’s wedding a few years later.

Although Dorro has offered himself to Track Administrators to sing the Australian National Anthem they have asked him to stick to opening the races in prayer.
