In December, Confederation of Australian Motorsport (C.A.M.S.) presented SCA’s Gary Coleman with the highest service award, the ‘NSW Service Star Award’ in honour of his support to the New South Wales motor sports community.
It was awarded for ‘Invaluable service, selfless dedication and continued support to motor sport competitors, crews, officials and their families’.
A CAMS official stated that “The role and function of a motor sport chaplain is often unnoticed and comes without accolade or award, but plays an integral part in maintaining strength and unity in a highly charged and dangerous environment.” He remarked, “Garry touches the lives of many people and we are grateful for all that he has done and continues to do.”
Coleman said, “The award came as a big surprise.” and that he was “very humbled by the experience.”
SCA is eager to train and help appoint motor sports chaplains to Targa, Rally, Historics, Speedway, Bikes, Trucks, Karts and the many other classes, tracks and series across the country. Please contact us for more information or complete your sports chaplaincy training.
